In the middle of the tropical forest of the Talamanca mountains range, the Naso
(Teribe) ethnia, built to share with the visitors, a small sample of their way
of life: an ecotourism project that includes a lodge, a restaurant and several
trails in the forest.
In this place, WEKSO, former known as PANAJUNGLA, are located the administration
headquarters of La Amistad International Park, a binational reserve that goes
beyond the Costa Rica-Panama border.

There, still remain the ruins of what it was the jungle training center of the
today non existing panamanian militars.
While the militarism has been banned in Panamá, the visitors can spend
the day or lodge in a construction that it is a replica of the indian huts,
have meals, take a tour or enjoy an "everything included package".

As main attractions, it is possible to hike, with a local guide, a very interesting
trail in the Park, through the jungle, and observe the richness of the flora
and fauna of the region, or visit the naso communities along the Teribe river,
where the small population live under a kingdom form of government, unique for
this part of the world.

The La Amistad International Park was created in 1988, declared World Patrimony Site in 1990 and, in 1998, became part of the Mesoamerican Biologic Corridor. Its objetives are to protect the more important hidrography basins of the region, as to serve as refuge for a great species diversity of wild fauna and flora, most of them, endangered.

The Park is located in the western region of the Republic of Panama, with its surface distributed in Bocas del Toro and Chiriqui provinces.
Its 207,000 hectares are between the 100 meters over the level of the sea and the 3,335 meters over the level of the sea.

From Bocas del Toro city, in the Archipelago, it is necessary to take a marine
taxi to Almirante and then a bus or taxi to Changuinola, or, the best alternative,
a marine taxi to Finca 63 and a cab to Changuinola.
Once in Changuinola, a taxi or a bus bring the visitor to the El Silencio community, at the shore of the Changuinola river, where the Odesen boat is waiting to carry them to Wekso. The trip, up in the river, takes 45 minutes, while the trip back, down with the current, takes only 20 minutes.
