Ngobe indians are numerically the largest indigenous group in the Bocas del Toro Archipelago. They live in several communities in the islands of Colon, Bastimentos, Solarte, Cristobal, Popa and Water Cay.

The other indigenous indians with a project in the Bocas del Toro Province, are the nasos or teribes, a small group that live in the mountains and jungle that separate Bocas del Toro from Chiriqui Province, in the La Amistad International Park.

Several ecotourism projects, built with international funds are running in the islands.

Quebrada Sal - on Bastimentos (Salt Creek in English) is an indian community of some 300 inhabitants. .

Odesen, Naso Teribe Indians Project with Restaurant, Lodge, Trails. This naso teribe organization, ODESEN, is based on the Administrative Headquarters of the Park, at Wekso, on the Teribe River shores.

In Bahía Honda (Bastimentos island), in Popa # 2 and Cayo Agua communities you can get a villager to guide you through the beautiful tropical forests. Popa island it is the only forest where you can see toucans.

At San Cristobal, Popa 2 or Quebrada Sal, local guides will tell you about their communities and customs.
